Cost Simulation of Wood Treatment

01.  Presentation:

Wood preservation processes under pressure on an industrial scale, in addition to ensuring the broad control of product quality, environmental safety, are the ones who present the greater facilities for the effective planning and control of production. Well-sized equipment, abundant availability of standards, specifications and national and international procedures, ensure such facilities.

Industrial plants for the preservation of wood, also called Wood Preservation plants (UPM) or (UTM), wood treatment plants currently are manufactured to operate with cold water soluble preservatives, although there are still hot operating unit with preservatives oil soluble.

Are available in the domestic market at least three distinct water-soluble preservatives: the CCA (copper chromium arsenic); the CCB (copper chromium boron) and the brand new CAB (better known as Azoles copper).

For being the oldest, the most widespread usage and experienced worldwide, the CCA (copper  chromium arsenic) is currently the most widely used in Brazil.

Therefore, our considerations shall take as the basis for consumption and cost of treatments made with CCA.

02. Product considerations:

Companies that use the CCA (Copper  Chromium arsenic) in Brazil today don´t have competitors in the market. National and international manufacturers, provide the product with high standard of quality, reliability of supply and strong technical assistance support. Marketed in various packaging and concentrations, we recommend, when you purchase the product, paying particular attention to the following points:

-Evaluate the cost effective IA (active ingredient) as a function of concentration offered, and not the cost of the product itself.

-Acquire the product in packages that facilitate their movement at the plant and allow the full utilization of its contents. Partial utilization of the product contained in the package is difficult to homogenization and can compromise the quality of the solution and consequently of the whole production.

-How toxic chemical class I, special attention must be given to the final disposal of packaging. Some suppliers are responsible for removal and disposal appropriate packaging after use. When this is not possible, the owner of UPM hire company specialized and accredited by Environmental Agencies to collect and dispose of the packaging

03. Values adopted for the simulation:

-Adopt as a reference product supplied in packs with 100 kg of product in 72% of concentration. Average price: US$6,63 p/KG-November 2013.

We also suggest the analysis by parts, but by volume of sawn timber. For example consider 01 m³ of sawn pine, kiln dried for use diverse without contact with the ground. Thus we have: 1, 0 m ³ x 0.85% (treatable volume) x 0kgIA, 4/m³ (retention) x US$6,63/kg US$ IA = US$22,54.
